Does anyone know anything about this projector? It has a built in screen. Is this for telecine? Or just for watching your movies without having to set up a big screen?

christian,
i have an elmo sc-30, which is the big brother of the sc-18. it possesses a three blade shutter. in short, this is not a telecine machine, it is more like a projector/viewer. although, you could outfit it with a five blade shutter and have it locked at 24fps for telecine, as i'm doing with my sc-30, that would require the service of a technician.

Thanks for the info. I'll just let this one go then. I'll wait for a telecine projector to come down the pike.

christen,
i believe the sc-18 is fairly rare. depending on the price, it may be a good thing to acquire.
and it's good to not have to set up a screen when you want to quickly view a film, y'know?
how much does the guy want for the sc-18?

I think it was under $200. Kinda rich for my blood, unless it can do telecine.

it's funny because i had the same question you asked when i got my sc-30. it seems like these machines would be the perfect candidates for telecine.
but you won't find any telecine for under $200. what you want is a projector with variable speed control. something like the elmo fp-a or the chinon 2500gl or eumigs.
these will achieve the flicker free transfer for around $150, more or less. if you want to get much cheaper, you're limiting your transfer options.
while you're looking for a variable frame rate projector, consider the brightness and the overall versatility of the unit. some variable speed projectors will project regular 8mm or super 8mm, like the chinon 2500gl/3000gl/etc. i believe some of the eumigs have variable speed and are equipped for sound (?). by the way, i read that the eumigs have a very gentle transport mechanism. moreso than the elmos.
anyway, good luck.

christen,
i just found an article by martin baumgarten which describes how to vary the speed of an sc-18 projector for video transfer work.
here's the link: http://lavender.fortunecity.com/lave...rojectors.html
this may be the projector for you afterall.
